"Poverty in the Philippines"
WHAT is POVERTY?
- Poverty is a complex social and economic condition in which individuals or groups do not have enough financial resources or access to basic needs required for a decent and healthy standard of living. It goes beyond simply having low income, as it also includes the lack of essentials such as nutritious food, clean water, safe housing, healthcare, education, and opportunities for stable employment. People living in poverty often experience hardship in meeting their daily needs, and they may also face social exclusion, limited access to services, and fewer chances to improve their situation. Poverty can be categorized into absolute poverty, where basic survival needs are not met, and relative poverty, where individuals have significantly fewer resources compared to others in their society. Many factors contribute to poverty, including unemployment, low wages, lack of education, rapid population growth, inequality, and economic or political instability. As a result, poverty affects not only individuals but also communities and entire nations, limiting development and reducing overall quality of life.
